How Does IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) Work?

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) works by delivering light energy through the skin’s surface, where it is absorbed by the melanin in the hair shaft. This energy is then converted into heat, which targets and disables the hair follicle beneath the skin. Over the next few days to two weeks, treated hairs naturally fall out.

Hair growth happens in cycles, moving through three distinct phases. IPL is only effective during the Anagen (growth) phase, but since not all hairs are in this phase at the same time, it’s important to follow the recommended 12-week treatment plan for the best results.

Darker hair absorbs IPL light more effectively, leading to better results.

When the follicle absorbs the light, it converts to heat, causing thermal damage that slows regrowth or permanently prevents hair from returning.

IPL also stimulates collagen and elastin production, helping improve skin tone and texture without surgery.

IPL can reduce visible signs of sun damage (photoaging), commonly seen on the face, neck, hands, and chest.
